Task Force on Culture of Science in the Muslim World

Task Force on Culture of Science in the Muslim World met at the sidelines of World Science Forum in Nov 2017 at the Dead Sea (in Jordan). The Task Force is chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan – the Chairperson of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) of Jordan.

The Task Force focused on addressing the Big Question:

The scientific culture of the Muslim Golden Age of Science thrived on the harmony between Islam and Science. Is the lack of this harmony to be blamed for the decline of scientific culture in the Muslim World today and how? What can be done to reverse this?

Members of the Task Force met in Jordan to present papers and discuss and debate their differing viewpoints. Since then, the Task Force Convenor, Professor Nidhal Guessoum Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the American University of Sharjah, Task Force co-Convenor Dr. Moneef Zou’bi Director General of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), and Task Forces Project Director Dr. Athar Osama, Executive Director of World Science Collaborative Limited have compiled and synthesized the findings.

The report of the Task Force is to be released shortly.

ARE YOU SCIENTIFIC MINDED?

Identifying this critical need, the Task Force has also launched a Survey of Science Literacy, Attitudes, and Culture (SLAC) to gather some basic information on a number of Muslim Countries of interest and these preliminary findings shall inform the future work of the Task Force and its members.

Take our Science Literacy, Attitudes, and Culture Survey in one of the 5 different languages and Benchmark yourself against others in the Muslim World: ENGLISH, ARABIC, URDU, TURKISH, BAHASA INDONESIA and PERSIAN.
